TRAFFIC ALERT: Lane Closures Next Week on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge
The N.C. Department of Transportation will intermittently close eastbound lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge on U.S. 17 over the Cape Fear River for one night next week. The closure will take place from 9 p.m. Wed, Dec. 16 until 5 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17 so crews can repair the center guardrail that was damaged in a recent crash. One lane will remain open to traffic at all times.
The center guardrail is an important safety feature of the bridge, ensuring that crashes are largely contained within the travel lane when they occur and reducing the chance of a vehicle crossing over into oncoming traffic.
Although the bridge will not be closed to traffic, drivers are urged to seek alternate routes. Motorists are also advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect possible delays. They should watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
