TRAFFIC ALERT: Road Closure with Detour on SR 1430 (Cedar Hill Road) South of Royster Road in the Navassa area
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close approximately one half mile of SR 1430 (Cedar Hill Road) in both directions immediately South of Royster Road NE beginning Monday, September 19, 2016 at 9:00 am until Thursday, September 14, 2017, weather permitting. A structure is to be constructed over Cartwheel Branch in addition to various utility and roadway operations that is being performed in conjunction with the construction of I-140 from US 74/76 (Andrew Jackson Highway) to SR 1430 (Cedar Hill Road).
Royster Road NE will only be accessible North of the closure (turn onto SR 1430 [Cedar Hill Road] from SR 1426 [Mt. Misery Road] and travel approx. 3.2 miles South to access SR 1431 [Royster Road]).
The signed detour routes for this closure are as follows:
- Southbound Detour: Take SR 1426 (Mt. Misery Road) to SR 1455 (Lincoln Rd) to SR 1432 (Old Mill Road) for access back to SR 1430 (Cedar Hill Road)
- Northbound Detour: Take SR 1432 (Old Mill Road) to SR 1455 (Lincoln Road) to SR 1426 (Mt. Misery Road) for access back to SR 1430 (Cedar Hill Road)
This work is part of the I-140 (Wilmington Bypass Project) which began March 3, 2014 and is scheduled to be open to traffic by November 2017 with a project completion date of April, 2018. The project will improve safety and reduce congestion in this area.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit
