Brunswick County State of Emergency lifted

Brunswick County Emergency ServicesThe State of Emergency declaration in Brunswick County has been lifted as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Brunswick County had declared a State of Emergency at 6 p.m. Friday in expectation of significant rainfall and associated flooding.

If residents are in need of shelter or assistance evacuating, they should call 910-253-5383.

While County government offices re-opened at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Brunswick County Courthouse remained closed the entire day. Brunswick County parks also remained closed Tuesday.

While weather conditions are improving and many roads are beginning to clear, residents should still be alert while driving. Water remains on some roads, and others are closed due to damage or potential damage to the road from flooding. Residents should never drive through standing or running water on the road, and should never attempt to drive down roads that have been barricaded or closed.

As residents begin to re-enter homes and buildings that have been flooded, they should take pre-cautions, as damage to the structure may not be immediately apparent. Residents should also be mindful that electrical wiring or appliances may have come into contact with water, even if that water has since receded. Anyone with concerns about the safety of a building can contact 910-253-5383.
