Brunswick County Finance Office Recognized Nationally for Budget, Financial Reporting
5/11/18 — Brunswick County’s Finance Office has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its financial reporting and budget presentation, recognitions it has received dozens of times in nearly two decades.
The GFOA also presents the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports to government finance professionals and offices which demonstrate a construction “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate their financial story and motivate potential users and groups to read the CAFR, or Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This award is considered the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting. Last year, 18.05 percent of counties nationwide achieved this recognition.
“I am appreciative of the support of our elected Commissioners over the years that has made these recognitions possible,” said County Manager Ann Hardy. “I am grateful for the leadership of Julie Miller and the finance employees that achieve the highest of ethical and professional standards year after year.”
Brunswick County’s Finance Office has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award 12 years in a row, and has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports 19 times since fiscal year 1998-99.
