Brunswick County Public Utilities wins Large Water Distribution System of the Year, Medium Wastewater Collection System of the Year
BOLIVIA, N.C. — Brunswick County Public Utilities has been awarded the Large Water Distribution System of the Year and the Medium Wastewater Collection System of the Year by the North Carolina American Water Works Association and the North Carolina Water Environment Association (NC AWWA-WEA).
Brunswick County Public Utilities also won the Large Water Distribution System of the Year award in 2013 and 2014.
The awards are given each year to the county or municipal systems that protect the public health and the natural beauty of the environment through pro-active practices of management, operations and maintenance, beyond what is required of its NC DENR collection system permit. They recognize systems that perform quality water or collection system maintenance procedures through the efficient use of labor, materials, equipment, and innovative methods to keep the distribution system in good working condition to minimize health hazards and, in the case of wastewater collection systems, property damage occurring due to sanitary sewer overflows during both wet weather and dry weather conditions.
Both awards also recognize and honor the system personnel for showing high levels of professionalism and working diligently on the operation and maintenance of the facilities.
The NC AWWA-WEA is a volunteer organization made up of more than 3,000 municipal and private utilities, engineering firms, government agencies and other organizations, with an emphasis on education and training that protects public health and the environment.
“The men and women in our Public Utilities department work hard every day to serve the County’s water and wastewater needs,” said Ann Hardy, County Manager. “The County could not have a more dedicated or professional team. It is great to see their efforts being recognized.”
