Brunswick County receives Large Water Distribution System of the Year Award for 4th consecutive year

BOLIVIA, N.C. — Brunswick County Public Utilities has been awarded the Large Water Distribution System of the Year Award from the North Carolina American Water Works Association and the North Carolina Water Environment Association (NC AWWA-WEA).

This is the fourth year in a row that Brunswick County Public Utilities has received this award.

The Water Distribution System of the Year awards are given to utility organizations that protect the public health through pro-active practices of management, operations and maintenance of water distribution systems, beyond minimum standards. The awards recognize efficiency and innovative methods, as well as personnel who demonstrate professionalism and who make the most of the available resources.

Water distribution systems are judged in four categories, based on the size of the system. With over 1,090 miles of water main, Brunswick County falls in the large distribution system category, along with utility providers like Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Raleigh.

When the award was presented, the NC AWWA-WEA mentioned Brunswick County’s expertise and dedication, the level of licensure obtained by employees, system growth, and the innovative programs Brunswick County Public Utilities implemented, including the use of the Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) system, backflow inspection program, and the accessibility of drawings for field personnel.

The NC AWWA-WEA is a volunteer organization made up of more than 3,000 municipal and private utilities, engineering firms, government agencies and other organizations, with an emphasis on education and training that protects public health and the environment.
