Brunswick County’s Northwest Water Treatment Plant recognized
BOLIVIA, N.C. — Brunswick County’s Northwest Water Treatment Plant was one of 56 water treatment plants in North Carolina recognized by the state for maintaining a high level of water treatment.
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality presents the N.C. Area Wide Optimization Award yearly to water facilities that surpass federal and state drinking water standards. The awards are part of an initiative to enhance the performance of existing surface water treatment facilities, and recognizes facilities that demonstrate outstanding turbidity removal, a key test of drinking water quality, among other measures. While all drinking water systems have to meet strict state and federal drinking water standards, the systems recognized met performance goals that are significantly more stringent.
“We are proud of our Public Utilities team for this accomplishment,” said County Manager Ann Hardy. “Congratulations on being recognized for contributing to the safety our citizens and the vital water system infrastructure that supports the county economy.”
