Lane Closures Next Week on U.S. 17/421 (Thomas Rhodes Bridge) over the Cape Fear River
The N.C. Department of Transportation will intermittently close one lane in each direction on the Thomas Rhodes Bridge on U.S. 17 over the Cape Fear River in Wilmington from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30 until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1. The closures are necessary for bridge inspectors to perform a one-year warranty inspection of the bridge.
A warranty review is standard for all NCDOT contracts. For this one-year inspection of the project, inspectors and project administrators will review the quality of the project to determine if any additional work needs to be done under the warranty. This process ensures that a road or bridge will be functional for years to come.
Although there will not be any detours, motorists are still advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
