Project Road Bridge over Waccamaw River to be closed in southern Brunswick County
Drivers who travel on the Project Road N.W. bridge over a branch of the Waccamaw River should be aware that the bridge will be closed beginning March 20. The closure is needed for workers to construct a drainage culvert. The new structure will open in August 2017.
The existing bridge was built in 1959 and needs to be replaced. Although still safe to use, the bridge requires significant maintenance, and its design no longer meets the demand of the traffic using it.
“We ask that folks who travel on this bridge follow the detour to Cox Road N.W., Marlow Road NW, Little Prong Road and back to Project Road,” said Advanced Engineering Technician Daniel Perry. “Please drive carefully and obey the posted speed limit.”
