Statement on Moratorium Vote

[October 21, 2024] Commissioner Frank Williams released the following statement following tonight’s vote on a development moratorium proposed by Commissioner Randy Thompson at the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting:

“On numerous occasions, both our current and former county attorney have advised us about the legal concerns surrounding a potential moratorium and the significant legal exposure that such a move would create for the county. While I have heard and understand the concerns of the citizens who have contacted us in support of a moratorium, I could not in good conscience cast a vote that I believe would create significant legal exposure for the County.”
