Hurricane Matthew’s Track Shifts East, But Brunswick County Not Out of the Woods Yet
The latest forecast cone for Hurricane Matthew has shifted to the east, and it appears less likely that Brunswick County will see a landfalling hurricane. However, this does not mean we will not be impacted by Matthew, nor can we rule out a direct hit. Citizens should continue to make preparations. As Governor Pat McCrory said during a briefing earlier today, “Models can change. Be over-prepared and underwhelmed.”

Please keep in mind that the forecast cone is also called a cone of UNCERTAINTY. Hurricanes have been known to change course at the last minute. Hurricane Diana, which made landfall in southeastern North Carolina in 1984, is an example of such a storm. Diana’s path is below.
