Resolution Requesting the Installation of a Stoplight at the Intersection of Old Fayetteville Road and Lanvale Road in Leland

RESOLUTION REQUESTING INSTALLATION OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF SR 1438 (LANVALE ROAD) AND SR 1437 (OLD FAYETTEVILLE ROAD)

WHEREAS, the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners considers public safety one of its most important responsibilities; and

WHEREAS, the safe and efficient movement of traffic is a key element of public safety for residents and visitors; and

WHEREAS, the NC Department of Transportation conducted a traffic signal analysis of the intersection of SR 1438 (Lanvale Road) and SR 1437 (Old Fayetteville Road) that included evaluating traffic data, existing conditions and crash history; and

WHEREAS, based on the findings of the study, signal warrants are met under existing conditions and therefore the Department would approve the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection; and

WHEREAS, the intersection of SR 1438 (Lanvale Road) and SR 1437 (Old Fayetteville Road) is the primary route for vehicles, including school buses, to access North Brunswick High School and Leland Middle School; and

WHEREAS, installation of a traffic signal is considered an important element of improving the traffic safety at the proposed location.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners hereby requests that the North Carolina Department of Transportation proceed with installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of SR 1438 (Lanvale Road) and SR 1437 (Old Fayetteville Road) at the earliest possible date in the interest of improving traffic safety at that location.
