Board of Commissioners votes to form fire review committee

[June 16, 2026] At a Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting in the Spring of 2026, Chief Charles Drew spoke on behalf of the Brunswick County Fire Chiefs Association and suggested a potential structure for a committee to develop an agreed-upon path forward for a fire department contract and funding approach.

On June 1, 2026, Commissioner Frank Williams requested that staff put an item on the board’s next agenda to formally create a slightly modified version of that committee.

On June 15, 2026, the board of commissioners unanimously voted to create the fire review committee, structured as follows:

• Two (2) County Commissioners

• Two (2) Mayors (One (1) Mayor from a municipality with a fire department and one (1) Mayor from a municipality without a fire department)

• Two (2) Fire Chiefs (One (1) Chief from a municipal fire department and one (1) Chief from a nonprofit/volunteer fire department) 

• Two (2) Citizens

• Three (3) Brunswick County Staff Members.
