TRAFFIC ALERT: Bridge Closure in Brunswick County, June 5-September 30, 2017

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close the bridge on SR 1349 (Bridgers Road) over Mulberry Branch in Shallotte beginning Monday June 5, 2017 at 7 a.m. through Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at 5 p.m. for a bridge replacement. Click here for information on the NCDOT’s website.

DETOUR: West on NC 130 then right onto the ramp to Hwy 17 North, then East on SR 1357 (Smith Avenue), then right on SR 1349 (White Road).

The new bridge will have updated drainage structures to prevent ponding on the roadway. Also, the bridge approaches will be reinforced to prevent washout and other maintenance issues.  The existing bridge was built in 1952 and considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. That means while it is still safe, it was built to the standards of its day and needs to be replaced.
