Former Brunswick County Hospital Building SOLD!

Hospital BuildingBOLIVIA, N.C. — The sale of the former hospital building off U.S. 17 in Brunswick County is now complete, after the sale officially closed Tuesday, June 30, 2015 and the transfer of funds was completed the morning of Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

Centre Development Company II, LLC, purchased the property for $750,000. County staff is now making final preparations to turn the property over to its new owners.

The approximately 32-acre property is the site of the former Brunswick Community Hospital. Brunswick County has owned the property since 2011, when Novant Health opened a new hospital facility at another location on U.S. 17.

“We are very excited that the property is going to be revitalized, with jobs created in Brunswick County,” said County Manager Ann Hardy.

“During my tenure as Commissioner we have pushed forward on deciding the outcome of the Brunswick County Hospital,” said Vice Chair Pat Sykes. “I am very pleased with the sale of this property. Our staff has worked extremely hard to make this happen. I hope that the property will be developed into another business to provide jobs in Brunswick County. We look forward to working with the new owner.”

“I was extremely excited when Bobby Lewis contacted us in 2013 and expressed interest in our former hospital facility,” said Commissioner Frank Williams. “County Manager Ann Hardy and her team worked diligently for the past two years to manage the negotiations and complete the sale. It has been a long time coming, but now this property is in the hands of a private entity that is working to bring jobs to Brunswick County.”

“I’d like to really comment on Ann Hardy’s diligent and hard work. If it hadn’t been for Ann, I don’t know if this would have taken place. And we appreciate the Board of Commissioners for being patient with us,” said Bobby Lewis, who along with Dale Elmore now owns the property. “They gave us time to do our due diligence and see what kind of interest might be out there. And there’s quite a bit of interest; convalescent care, drug treatment care and even the Wounded Warrior Project have all expressed interest. This property lends itself to those uses, since it is spread out on one floor and doesn’t have stairs or multiple levels for residents to navigate.”

Lewis continued, “Brunswick County is a perfect site for convalescent care due to Brunswick County’s large number of older retirees flocking to the coastal areas who will need convalescent care in the future. The central location will also provide access to all of Brunswick County, and make it easier both for Brunswick County residents and for those flying in to the Myrtle Beach or Wilmington airports to visit their loved ones. We’re excited to take on this project and we look forward to finalizing it.”
